FOOTBALL 2021: COVID Version Week 12

This has been a weird season for Texas A&M. It has produced the elation of victories over both Alabama and Auburn, and the discouraging disappointment of losses to Arkansas and both Mississippi schools. The regular season is down to two games, and A&M needs to win them both.

For this particular Aggie team, there really aren't many sure things, but tomorrow's 11:00 AM game at Kyle Field against Prairie View A&M (7-2) comes pretty close. This is basically a nothing game, since A&M won't get any praise for winning it, but losing in an upset would generate a lot of scorn and ridicule in the college football world. I haven't seen a betting line yet, but College Football News expects Prairie View to play offense well enough to score some points on the Aggie defense, but not enough to outscore A&M's offense. At the end, the Aggies should win 41-10.

For A&M, winning the game by a decent margin is important, but even more important is finishing the day with no fresh player injuries. The next game at LSU is the critical win, and everybody needs to be physically prepared to participate.

Six SEC teams have non-conference games against lesser opponents tomorrow. The only SEC game worth mentioning is the 2:30 showcase game on CBS, featuring Arkansas (7-2) at Alabama (9-1). The Tide is favored by 21 points, and CFN predicts the hogs will fall 37-20. I'll be equally happy to see either team lose.

Update 12:24 PM Saturday: The game against Prairie View is such a nothing game, it isn't even being shown on regular cable TV. I had to download an app and jump through a bunch of hoops to stream it on my laptop PC. The Aggies are ahead 38-0 at the half, and I'd like to see A&M give LSU this kind of beating.

Another update 1:55 PM Saturday: The Aggie backups got some game experience in the second half, which held down the scoring on offense. Some freshmen were impressive today. Final score 52-3.

To kill time, I watched the end of Texas U vs West Virginia on my PC. The horns lost 31-23, their sixth consecutive loss, making their record 4-7 and locking down another losing season. Good bull.

Final update 6:21 PM Saturday: The hogs gave the tide all they could handle, but came up short in a 42-35 defeat.
