Football 2019: Week Ten

Texas A&M has finished 2/3 of the regular season schedule, and are exactly where I expected them to be at 5-3 (although I thought before the season that A&M might be 6-2 with a surprising win against Auburn). The Aggies have won the games they should win in the SEC West, and lost the ones I didn't expect them to win. Since they've played to form, there hasn't been anything to get juiced up about.

Tomorrow A&M gets another late morning TV slot at 11:00 AM on SEC Network. The visitor is UT-San Antonio, and the Aggies are favored by nearly 40 points. The prevailing opinion is that UTSA might pull off an upset if the Aggies try to sleepwalk through the mismatch. Historically, they've done that a few times too often.

Usually, when a game like this appears on the TAMU schedule, my reaction is "Why the fuck are we playing THIS school?"

Considering this season's games include Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and LSU, I'm not gonna bitch about another cupcake. Throw in South Carolina, and the Aggies will have faced their fair share of challenges when it's all over.

College Football News predicts A&M will stay focused enough to finish the game with a 48-13 win.

The SEC showcase game at 2:30 PM on CBS is the annual grudge match between Georgia (6-1) and Florida (7-1). Georgia is a visiting favorite at 6.5 points. College Football News expects this to be close, since Georgia's offense is basically a grind-it-out system with minimal explosive capability, and Florida's strength is defense. The forecast is a 26-23 Bulldog win, and this might be worth watching since the Aggies will be finishing up about the time this game is getting started.

Update 6:10 PM Saturday: The Aggies got behind 7-0 in the first quarter, then racked up 45 unanswered points before sending in the 2nd and 3rd team players to finish the fourth quarter. The backup quarterback threw an interception that was returned about 60 yards for the touchdown that made the final score 45-14. And so ended Texas A&M's last easy game of the 2019 season. Next up: South Carolina.
