Football 2019: Week Fourteen

The regular season skids to a halt with most of the traditional rivalry games on the schedule. In the SEC, the showcase slot (CBS at 2:30 PM on Saturday) is filled by Alabama at Auburn. The Tide was damaged by the loss to LSU and is only a 3.5 point favorite on the road. College Football News forecasts a 27-17 loss for Auburn.

For decades, the traditional rivalry game that captured my attention was played between Texas A&M and Texas U, usually on Thanksgiving day. Those times are long gone, and the Aggies haven't done well against their replacement rival. Tomorrow at 6:00 PM on ESPN, the Aggies (7-4) travel to LSU (11-0) as a 17-point underdog. The CFN prediction is a 41-27 beating. I can't think of anything else to add to that. My current plan is to watch the game on TV until the Aggies are behind by 14 points or more. If they can keep it close, I'll stick around longer.

Update 8:36 PM Saturday: How bad is the mauling A&M is getting at Baton Rouge? So bad that I turned off the TV about midway through the first quarter (Aggies behind 14-0). So bad that malcontents at the A&M fan forum are talking about firing Jimbo Fisher and replacing him with Baylor's head coach. Yeah, that sounds like the perfect solution.

Final update: Aggies were outscored 50-7, so another season was shot to hell.
