FOOTBALL 2023: Sixth Week

It seems like the older I get the faster time flies, and here we are at the halfway point in the 2023 college football season. For Texas A&M (4-1), that means a home game against Alabama (also 4-1) tomorrow, with the home team a 2 1/2 point underdog. The game will get the SEC showcase slot at 2:30 PM on CBS.

Since joining the SEC West, the Aggies have struggled against the Tide. Kevin Sumlin won his first game against them, and Jimbo has managed one additional win (although he should have had one more at Alabama last year). This Alabama team isn't as impressive as Saban's teams typically are, and they were handled at home by future SEC opponent Texas U. in their second game.

College Football News seems to believe A&M and 'Bama are fairly evenly matched on both offense and defense, but the Tide will pull out a 23-20 win in the fourth quarter.

Update 4:06 PM: A&M ahead 17-10 at halftime, playing well on defense.

Final update 5:59 PM: A&M collapsed in the second half on both offense and defense, and were outscored 16-3, making this a 26-20 loss. This kind of futility has become the norm under Jimbo. Unfortunately, Max Johnson doesn't have the look of a starting quarterback who can win most of the remaining games this season.
