Here's one clue concerning the relevance of Texas A&M football in my consciousness this year: I normally dedicate some amount of time (up to 60 minutes) on the Friday before A&M games, posting opinions and attitudes here about the game on Saturday's schedule. Today I was at the gym, churning out minutes and miles on my favorite treadmill, when it suddenly occurred to me that the Aggies have a ball game today, and not another cakewalk like the New Mexico blowout. This one is a road game against Miami (also 1-0), and I had completely forgotten about it yesterday.
The game will be on ABC at 2:30 PM, with A&M a narrow 3-point road favorite. The forecast at College Football News pointed out that Jimbo Fisher's most successful games in recent seasons were won with an effective ball control offense that ate up time and yards in big chunks. The article adds that, based on the New Mexico game, it looks like the Aggies might be moving toward a quick-strike offense under the new OC, Bobby Petrino. In the game today, Miami appears to be the team better suited to control the clock, and that's why the Hurricane is predicted to win a 27-26 squeaker.
Update: The season is off to a shaky start after the A&M defense was shredded by the Miami quarterback for five touchdowns and zero interceptions. Final score 48-33.
