In the ninth week of the season, Texas A&M seems to have achieved stability and takes a 6-2 record into a bye week. With no game scheduled tomorrow, Aggie fans can focus their attention on rumors that Jimbo will be pursued by LSU to replace Ed Orgeron. After a national championship season, Orgeron muddled through 2020 at 5-5, and isn't doing much better now at 4-4. The four LSU losses were to UCLA, Auburn, Kentucky and Ole Miss. The best win came against Florida (49-42), with a close call against Mississippi State (28-25).
In Baton Rouge, they're getting restless.
The Aggies have three challenging games left in the regular season: Auburn at home on 11/6, then at Ole Miss on 11/13, with Prairie View at home on 11/20, and the season finale at LSU on 11/27. Sweep all four to finish 10-2, and this would have to be considered a good season that started poorly.
The next two A&M opponents tangle at 6:00 PM tomorrow on ESPN, when Ole Miss (6-1) visits Auburn (5-2) as a 2.5 point underdog. The Rebels have one of the hottest offenses in the country now, but Auburn may have an advantage on defense. Both teams have given A&M trouble in the SEC West since 2012. The Aggies are 4-5 against Auburn, and slightly better (5-3) against Ole Miss (the 2020 game was cancelled).
Anyway, College Football News expects Auburn will eke out a narrow 34-31 win at home. I might keep one eye on the game to see what A&M will be dealing with in the next two games.
Update 11:31 PM Saturday: Didn't watch any of it, but Auburn polished off Ole Miss tonight, 31-20. Next week, Auburn may be a handful for the Aggies.
