After not playing the last two weekends, Texas A&M is scheduled to return tomorrow in a home game against Louisiana State (ESPN at 6:00 PM). There's a lot of rain in the weather forecast, but hopefully it won't cause a sloppy game.
LSU is 3-3 on the season, with wins against Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Arkansas. The losses came against Mississippi State, Missouri and Auburn. The Aggies beat the same teams LSU beat, but also beat MSU and Florida. Their only loss was at Alabama, and they are favored to beat LSU by 14 points. A&M is usually the underdog in games against LSU, so I'm curious to see how they respond in this role.
College Football News predicts the Aggies will win 41-24. I'm not confident that A&M can win at all, much less by a score like that. I've lived through too many losses to feel secure against that bunch. On the other hand, the Aggies have generally been fairly impressive on offense and defense during their winning streak, so who knows? The rainy weather and the long layoff may be factors in this one.
Update 8:27 PM Saturday: A sloppy game played in crappy weather. Both offenses are struggling while both defenses are playing pretty well. Texas A&M is a little better on offense and defense, and is ahead 13-0 at halftime, but blew a scoring opportunity with a lost fumble. Should be at least 17-0 now.
Final update 11:59 PM: Watching A&M's offense tonight was mostly boring and occasionally painful, but the defense was ready to play despite the three-week layoff. LSU finally punched in a touchdown with 38 seconds left in the 4th quarter to avert the shutout. Final score was 20-7, and the final Aggie score was an interception returned for a TD by the defense.
