Football 2019: Week Seven

We're getting near the halfway point of the season, and Texas A&M hasn't produced a win that could be characterized as exciting, or even a loss that could be described as encouraging. That makes it a disappointing season for me, at least though five games and a 3-2 record.

Theoretically, the Aggies get an opportunity to change things when they host the Crimson Tide tomorrow in the 2:30 PM showcase slot on CBS. Alabama strolls in at 5-0, acting like they own the place, and are favored by 17 points. Clemson and Auburn were never threatened, but A&M played well enough to prevent blowout losses on the scoreboard. If they played the proverbial flawless game against Bama, the Aggies might be able to pull off an upset win that would shake up the college football world for a week or so. Unfortunately, flawless execution isn't something they know how to do. The College Football News prediction: Alabama rolls 37-20. Update 6:25 PM Saturday: Final score was Alabama 47 Texas A&M 28. Didn't care, didn't watch.

Other SEC games with CFN predicted final scores:
  • Ole Miss (3-2) at Missouri (4-1): Missouri wins 30-16. Actual score: Missouri won 38-27
  • Arkansas (2-3) at Kentucky (2-3): Kentucky wins 30-23. Actual score: Kentucky won 24-20
  • Mississippi State (3-2) at Tennessee (1-4): MSU wins 27-23. Actual score: Tennessee won 20-10
  • Florida (6-0) at Louisiana State (5-0): LSU wins 26-20. Actual score: LSU won 42-28
In the only game that ever matters in the Big 12 (minus 2) conference, Oklahoma (5-0) faces Texas U (4-1) as a 10.5 point favorite. I don't expect to see any of this game, but I may watch some of it if the longhorns are getting their asses whipped. CFN thinks Texas U will put up a fight, but still lose 37-34. Update 5:42 PM Saturday: The sooners held off the longhorns and won 34-27.

Update 4:16 PM Saturday: Well, shit. South Carolina upset Georgia in overtime, 20-17. Texas A&M plays those two teams back-to-back later this season. I had South Carolina penciled in as a probable win, Georgia as a definite loss. Now what? Is SC better than I thought, or Georgia not as good? All I know is that A&M probably doesn't have many easy games left, maybe only one.
