Right now, I tend to believe the Aggies blew their chance to match last season's nine wins when they wasted an opportunity to beat Auburn at Kyle Field. Reaching nine wins now will require a sweep of Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Carolina to accompany the expected blowout of UTSA. Then they'll need to win a bowl game and get an upset win in at least one of the three toughest games remaining (Alabama, Georgia, or LSU). Based on what the Aggies showed in losses to Clemson and Auburn (not much), 7-6 looks more likely than another 9-4.
Tomorrow, the 2-2 Aggies face 2-2 Arkansas in Arlington. The game landed the 11:00 AM slot on ESPN, and A&M is favored by 23.5 points. What makes this game slightly more interesting than it would be otherwise? Former A&M quarterback Nick Starkel transferred to Arkansas and will start against the Aggies tomorrow. I imagine he expects to prove that Jimbo screwed up by choosing Kellen Mond to start ahead of him.
College Football News predicts Texas A&M will achieve a needed 38-17 win. Since so many games against Arkansas played at Arlington were won in OT, I'd prefer the outcome of this one never be in doubt.
In other SEC games tomorrow, Alabama is favored by nearly 40 points against Ole Miss, Auburn is favored by about 10 to beat MSU, and South Carolina is favored by a field goal over visiting Kentucky.
Update 2:39 PM Saturday: I lost interest in this hog tussle in the first quarter, and ended up listening to bits and pieces of it on the radio, and watching a few big plays on TV instant replay. This was a struggle between two mediocre SEC teams, the kind of game that would be lost by whichever team made the last mistake. Today, the hogs flubbed their last offensive play, and Texas A&M dodged a bullet since they were leading 31-27 at the time.
