Since this has been a chilly, damp day, I've spent some of the afternoon reading my bookmarked liberal blogs, mostly stuff on the topic of the November 7th election results. Based to some extent on what I've read, here's my current theory on the state of the national crisis:
People who are educated and engaged turned out to vote yesterday, and many of them acknowledged that their vote was against Donnie Jerkinov. Up until now, most of the damage Donnie has caused has been the kind that takes a while to be felt. The pain isn't immediate, and the only people who are really aware of it are those who are intelligent and interested. In other words, people who are keeping up.
There's an article in Politico that's also being discussed in the blogs today, about the Trumpkins in Pennsylvania. They still love Donnie, although it's clear that some of them really don't know why.
My theory is that a lot of Trumpkins still believe Donnie is the character he played on that TV show they used to watch. They get most of their information from sources like Fox News, which keeps them separated from the reality most of us are living in, and they see Donnie's liabilities as assets (e.g., he hates the same people they hate). And so far, they haven't felt any of the pain that will hit them hard when the social safety net is ripped apart. If Trumpkins are lucky, decent people who understand the danger of the situation will continue to resist, and Trumpkins will be allowed to remain in their bubbles without being cruelly punished for their stupidity.
