Football 2015: Week 12

Another week closer to the end of the regular season. The Aggies are in Nashville to play Vanderbilt in a game that I penciled in as a definite win back in August. Things have changed since then, and Vanderbilt looks like they may be formidable on defense at a point when A&M's offense has turned to shit. The game is set for 6:30 on SEC, and Bleacher Report predicts Vandy will win a struggle 15-14.

The CBS showcase game at 2:30 PM has LSU (ranked 15th) at Ole Miss (ranked 22nd). The wheels have started coming off for LSU after losses to Alabama and Arkansas, and Bleacher Report thinks Ole Miss will hand them a third loss in a close contest (24-20). UPDATE: Ole Miss blew out LSU 38-17. Too bad A&M is so rotten this year, because LSU looks like they're ready to roll over for any team that can score points.

Two teams that A&M defeated earlier meet at 6:00 PM on ESPN. Mississippi State is at rapidly-improving Arkansas, and I doubt that A&M could come close to beating the Razorbacks if they played again. Bleacher Report says they'll trounce the Bulldogs 37-20. UPDATE: Mississippi State won a shootout 51-50 after blocking a last minute field goal attempt by the Razorbacks.

In the Big WTF, Baylor (ranked 10th) visits unbeaten (10-0) Oklahoma State. There was a time in recent weeks when people were discussing Baylor as a contender for the national championship. Bleacher Report predicts that OSU will drive a stake through Baylor's heart with a 40-31 shootout victory. UPDATE: Baylor ended OSU dreams of an unbeaten season with a 45-35 win.

The other Big Dumpster Fire showdown features TCU (ranked 18th) against Oklahoma (ranked 7th) at Norman. This game is on ABC at 7:00 PM, and I'll watch a little if the Aggies are stinking up the joint against the Commodores. Like Baylor, the Christians were highly regarded at the beginning of the year, but injuries have started to weaken them. Bleacher Report doubts that it'll be close, with OU romping 47-23. UPDATE: With 9:21 remaining in the game, the Sooners had a 30-13 lead against the Christians, but TCU closed the margin to 30-29 late, and ultimately lost when a 2-point conversion attempt failed.

UPDATE 8:29 PM SATURDAY: The Aggies are ahead 16-0, thanks to one pass that went 95 yards for a touchdown. Otherwise, this is one of the worst college football games I've watched in recent years. Both teams are making sloppy mistakes. I'm not sure whether Vanderbilt's defense is that good or the A&M offense is that rotten, but I think the Aggies are probably making Vandy look better than they are. The A&M defense was gashed early and often, but seemed to firm up a little in the second quarter. Bottom line: Two of the worst teams in the SEC are locked in a struggle to see which one can screw up and blow the game out their ass.

UPDATE 10:12 PM SATURDAY: Texas A&M won 25-0, with six fucking field goals and the lone TD pass that went 95 yards. In this game, the Aggies were more successful scoring touchdowns from their own 5-yard line than they were from Vanderbilt's. This will probably be the last Aggie win of the season, because I doubt this offense will score against LSU or any decent bowl game opponent. Sumlin is lucky that Vanderbilt's offense is even more inept than his.
