Football 2014: Week Seven

Texas A&M will be back at home Saturday for another night game that starts at 8:00 PM and probably won't end until midnight (even with no rain delay). After the fiasco in Starkville last week, I'm tempted to pass on the Ole Miss game. For some reason, the Aggies are a narrow (1.5 point) favorite, and College Football News predicts they'll cover with a 34-31 win. The thinking is that Bo Wallace, the Ole Miss quarterback who has a reputation for being up and down, will be down after his big win over Alabama last week.

The SEC showcase game at 2:30 on CBS features Auburn (5-0) at Mississippi State (5-0), with Auburn favored by 3 points. Last week, they pounded LSU even more decisively than the Bulldogs pounded A&M, and from what I've seen, either team could go undefeated this season. But one of them won't, and CFN predicts it'll be Auburn. MSU to win 38-34.

Alabama proved that they weren't unbeatable against Ole Miss, and Arkansas showed some promise in their OT loss to Texas A&M. The Tide is a 10-point favorite over the Razorbacks, and CFN forecasts a 41-20 blowout. LSU is favored by a hair (1.5) against Florida, but CFN says the Gators will win 20-13. That's fine, because I want to see LSU lose as much as possible. Georgia is a 3-point pick over Missouri, but CFN thinks the Bulldogs will fall 27-23. I'm pulling for Georgia, because I started hating Mizzou when they started beating the Aggies every year in the Big 12.

In the BDF, unbeaten TCU visits unbeaten Baylor as an 8-point underdog, but CFN calls this a 45-42 win for the Christians. In the Red River shootout, the sooners are a two touchdown favorite over the stronghorns, and CFN says they'll cover the spread 38-13. I hate all four of these teams, but I hate OU and TCU less than I hate Texas U and Baylor, so I hope CFN's predictions are accurate.

Added 3:28 PM Saturday: The sooners held off the stronghorns 31-26, and Georgia smeared Missouri 34-0. In the first quarter of the SEC showcase game, Auburn trails Mississippi State 21-0. The Bulldogs look unbeatable on offense and defense, and Auburn has helped them out with two turnovers, a pass interference penalty in the end zone, and a missed FG after their only promising drive. In Waco, the Christians lead Baylor 14-0.

Added 6:50 PM Saturday: Mississippi State is the real deal. You cannot spot the Bulldogs a 21-point lead and have any prayer of winning. They're too solid in every phase of the game to allow a comeback of those dimensions. Auburn learned that lesson today in a 38-23 loss. They still have to play Alabama and Ole Miss, but as things stand today, MSU looks like the dominant force in the SEC West.

Meanwhile, in the BDF shootout between the christians and the bears, TCU managed to choke. Leading 58-37 with less than 12 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, they puked out a 61-58 loss instead. Fuck the goddamned frogs, and fuck Baylor while we're at it.

Added 8:41 PM Saturday: First quarter update (2:04 remaining): Ole Miss leads 14-0. Texas A&M hasn't done a goddamned thing right on offense or defense, and they're light years away from being competitive the SEC West. The South Carolina game was a mirage, and the sad part is, there are many more ass whippings ahead.

Added 8:58 PM: The first promising Aggie drive just ended with a 75 yard interception return for another Ole Miss score. Now 21-0 and this one is probably over, barring intervention of divine origin.

Added 10:15 PM: Third quarter (7:05 remaining). The Aggies inched their way down the field and scored a touchdown. There goes the shutout.

Added 10:41 PM: Kenny (Nil) Hill just fumbled the ball, which Ole Miss returned for another instant touchdown. Updated score is 35-7 early 4th quarter. This display is embarrassing, and there's nothing happening tonight that makes me think A&M will win another SEC game this season.

Added 11:36 PM: Final score 35-20 after two Aggie TDs in garbage time. Humiliation. How many more times will 110,000 paying customers show up to watch this kind of rectal probe?
