Football 2013: Week Seven

After Texas A&M's bye week, the action resumes tomorrow. I'll try to watch three games on television:
  • Oklahoma vs Texas
  • Florida at LSU
  • Texas A&M at Ole Miss
The 11:00 AM game has OU favored by two TDs against the longhorns. College Football News predicts the Sooners will win 37-17. Next to seeing the Aggies win, my favorite TV sport is watching Texas U. lose to anybody. I'd like to see a blowout, like 52-6, but will take what I can get.

At 2:30, Florida plays LSU on CBS, and CFN expects them to lose 23-17. As long as this one is close (no leads greater than 10 points), I'll watch, mainly to see if the Gators can expose any vulnerable spots in LSU's defense.

Finally, the 7:30 PM game on ESPN is A&M favored by 6.5 points at Ole Miss. The CFN Fearless Forecast is another Manziel offensive clinic, and a 43-34 Aggie win. After the Arkansas game, I can't take anything for granted. I'd like to see the Aggies with a good lead from start to finish, because I'm getting too old to deal with a lot of nail-biting suspense.

Added 2:58 PM Saturday: I got in late from my morning walk, turned on the TV, saw the longhorns were ahead 10-3, and decided to spend my time on the internet instead of watching the game. Good thing I did, since the horns won 36-20. Mack Brown rules, which is probably good for A&M over the long haul.

Added 9:18 PM Saturday: Aggies ahead of Ole Miss 14-10 at halftime. Game is not what I expected in terms of defensive play. Manziel has a sore leg, the offense is struggling a little, and the Aggies are making just enough mistakes to let Ole Miss stay close (penalties, missed FG, etc). This has been one of those 'upset Saturdays' we hear about. Stanford, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Georgia have all gone done, and A&M could be next if they aren't careful.

Added 10:23 PM Saturday: The Aggies are still ahead 21-17 at end of 3rd quarter. Teams traded TDs and INTs, and points are hard to come by for Manziel tonight.

Added 11:30 PM Saturday: To win in the SEC, the Aggies will eventually need a stouter defense than the one they now have. Ole Miss made it look easy, reeling off three touchdowns in the 4th quarter for a 38-31 lead. I was writing this off as a loss when the defense finally forced a three-and-out with under three minutes remaining. Manziel, who had been having a so-so night, did it again, running and passing the Aggies into position to win 41-38, the winning points coming on the final play, a 33-yard field goal. Considering the problems missed FGs have created for A&M, it was a breakthrough of sorts to win a game on a clutch kick. With this defense, the Aggies will need every fuckin' point they can get this year.
