The 2013 college football season reaches the serious point on Saturday, when A&M begins its tour through the SEC. The current record is 0-1, and former SWC rival Arkansas is up next. College Football News predicts the Aggies will win 41-23, which is similar to my own prediction (44-27) a few days ago. In the other big games involving the SEC West, CFN predicts LSU will edge Georgia 34-31, and Alabama will beat Ole Miss 38-16. The prevailing opinion around here is that LSU and Mississippi are the two biggest threats remaining on A&M's schedule.
Added 3:02 PM Friday: The Good Bull Hunting stats simulation projects the A&M game at Arkansas will be much closer than most of us are expecting it to be, something like 38-27.
Added 1:49 PM Saturday: The Dallas Morning News says A&M should win 38-22.
Added 7:36 PM Saturday: The Aggies lead 24-20 at the half. I had an idea that Arkansas wasn't going to be an easy win this year, but they're better than I expected. They're keeping the game close with passes, and connected on some long ones that were wide open. I was concerned that A&M wouldn't be able to stop the run, but they've done a decent job there. Letting the Razorbacks sustain a long drive for a FG as the clock ran out was bad. So far, no missed kicks.
Added 8:41 PM: End of third quarter, Aggies still ahead 38-33. This fucking game is brutal.
Added 9:24 PM: Final score 45-33. The Aggies won it by playing something that resembled traditional SEC football. One TD drive that was all running plays, a goal line stand, and a late interception to ice the win. Arkansas is much better than they were last year, and I think they'll be the kind of rival in the SEC that Texas Tech was in the SWC and Big 12. In the other top SEC games, Georgia edged LSU in a 44-41 shootout, and Alabama crushed Ole Miss 25-0.
Added 10:54 PM: The talking heads on the AM sports talk station are doing their usual post-game analysis. I swear to god, those two pussies are driving me crazy with their hankie-clutching bullshit. Example: Johnny looked disinterested on the sidelines in the second half... OMG, what are the implications of that ? Listen, you two assholes, A&M won an SEC road game in the rain with a defense that needs a lot of work and an infusion of talent. I can remember too many seasons when A&M would've lost that game.
