Heisman Jinx

Here's how the Heisman Trophy winners have played in their bowl games since 2000:

• 2000: Florida State quarterback Chris Weinke lost to Oklahoma 13-2 in the Orange Bowl.
• 2001: Nebraska quarterback Eric Crouch lost to Miami 37-14 in the Rose Bowl.
• 2002: Southern Cal quarterback Carson Palmer beat Iowa 38-17 in the Orange Bowl.
• 2003: Oklahoma quarterback Jason White lost to LSU 21-14 in the Sugar Bowl.
• 2004: Southern Cal quarterback Matt Leinart beat Oklahoma 55-19 in the Orange Bowl.
• 2005: Southern Cal running back Reggie Bush lost to Texas 41-38 in the Rose Bowl.
• 2006: Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith lost to Florida 41-14 in the BCS national championship game.
• 2007: Florida quarterback Tim Tebow lost to Michigan 41-35 in the Capital One Bowl.
• 2008: Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford lost to Florida 24-14 in the BCS national championship game.
• 2009: Alabama running back Mark Ingram beat Texas 37-21 in the BCS national championship game.
• 2010: Auburn quarterback Cam Newton beat Oregon 22-19 in the BCS national championship game.
• 2011: Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III beat Washington 67-56 in the Alamo Bowl.

A dozen Heisman winners since 2000 have played in bowl games, and seven played on the losing team. Among quarterbacks, the record is 4-6. Heisman quarterbacks on SEC teams are 1-1, and Heisman quarterbacks on Big 12 teams are 1-3 in bowl games since 2000. Will the latest Heisman winner, SEC quarterback Johnny Manziel, be another loser like Tim Tebow or another winner like Cam Newton?
