College Football News prediction: Aggies 40 Ole Miss 27
The Aggies are favored by 10.5 points on the road, and CFN predicts the game will be much closer than the Arkansas game ended up being. Speaking of Arkansas, they'll play Auburn on TV at 11:00 tomorrow. I want to see them against another SEC West opponent. The big SEC game of the day is the 2:30 match between LSU at Florida. Oklahoma plays Texas Tech in the same time slot, and I may check that game from time to time. I still hate the Red Raiders.
Added 6:06 PM, Saturday: Florida beat LSU 14-6 in a typical SEC defensive struggle. The opening game Aggie loss doesn't look quite as bad, and LSU is looking less like a definite loss. In a minute, the Aggie-Ole Miss game gets started, and I'll know more about TAMU in about three hours.
Added 7:46 PM: The game is tied 17-17 at the half. The Aggies have been uncharacteristically sloppy. Interceptions, fumbles, and turning the ball over on downs have kept this closer than it needs to be, but Ole Miss is also better than I expected. Upcoming Aggie opponents LSU and Auburn both lost today, Auburn to an Arkansas team the Aggies beat 58-10. The Aggies need to muscle up and start taking charge of this situation in the 3rd quarter.
Added 8:48 PM: The Aggies are disintegrating before my eyes. Six turnovers, and Manziel has regressed to the ineffective red shirt freshman QB that I spent the summer worrying about. Ole Miss has taken command of the game, leading 27-17 with about 12 minutes left. The Aggies may pull this one out, but I have doubts.
Added 9:34 PM: I came within inches of quitting on the game, but fortunately I stuck around to see the Aggies win 30-27. Ole Miss helped by failing to convert 4th and inches, then throwing an INT that sealed it. This was the kind of game that A&M pissed down a rathole last year. This year, when it got down to the nut cutting, Manziel turned back into the Miracle Man and the defense made two huge game-saving plays. Maybe Sumlin will work out. One thing for sure: This game will eventually be part of the Johnny Football legend around this place.
