College Football News predicts a shootout, with the Aggies winning 52-42.
The Louisiana Tech game that was originally set as the season opener is now a mid-season affair with a higher profile, since both teams are better than expected in August. After the way the Ole Miss game ended, I'm reluctant to turn off an Aggie TV game before it's over, but this one starts so late (8:15 PM) I may not have a choice.
Added 10:21 PM: I had a movie date with my daughter the (pregnant) artist today. Saw a good science fiction/crime movie called Looper, with Bruce Willis. Since I was at the movies, I didn't watch the Texas-Oklahoma game live -- but I recorded it, and I'm glad I did. The Sooners gave the longhorns an ass-whipping (63-21). Texas isn't as good as I was led to believe.
I was waiting for Florida to finish off Vanderbilt on The U so they could switch to the Aggies at La. Tech, already in progress. At 8:34 PM, during a thunderstorm, our power went out and wasn't restored until 9:20. By then the game was in the 2nd quarter with A&M ahead 24-0. The way my luck works, the Bulldogs waited until I was watching to start scoring. The part of the game I saw was 16-15 in favor of La. Tech, but the Aggies are still leading 39-16 at halftime.
Added 11:52 PM: Longest motherfucking game I ever saw. La. Tech has chopped the Aggie lead from 27 to 8 (46-38) and there are still over 12 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. The defense hasn't stopped anything in the past hour, and Manziel has gone cold as ice. Does he have any miracles left after that finish at Ole Miss? It doesn't look like he does.
Added 12:55 AM Sunday 14 October: Final score 59-57. Too close for comfort, but last year this would've been a loss. It came down to Louisiana Tech missing a two-point conversion and failing to recover an onside kick at the end of the game. I'm glad this MF didn't go into OT because the defense looked gassed. Maybe the offense needs to slow down the tempo and give the D a chance to rest. LSU is up next, and I'm pretty sure there won't be 116 points scored in that one.
Added 11:58 PM Sunday 14 October: Tonight I watched the Aggie football highlights show to see the parts of the game I missed last night. The game statistics were crazy, and when I looked at them I couldn't believe A&M won. Aggies: 19 penalties for 165 yards, one lost fumble, one interception returned for a TD. Louisiana Tech had about half the penalties and penalty yardage, and zero turnovers. In past years, those statistical disadvantages would have doomed A&M. The offsetting factors were (A) the blocked PAT returned for two points, and (B) Louisiana Tech turning the ball over on downs on three of five 4th down conversion attempts.
