On paper, tomorrow's TV schedule looks promising. The 11:00 game is Texas Tech at Texas U, and the horns are big favorites. I wonder which red raiders will show up -- the ones who whipped Oklahoma or the ones who were blown out by Iowa State ? College Football News picks TexTech to win 37-34 in a shootout, so I'll stay with this one as long as the raiders are ahead or no more than ten points behind.
The 2:30 game is TAMU at OU. The way A&M's season is going, there's no reason to expect this game to be anything other than another sickening disappointment. CFN predicts the sooners will win 52-31, and from everything I've seen so far, that seems reasonable. The Aggies made a statement last year when they upset OU at Kyle Field, so I'll watch until it's obvious A&M has no chance to win. That may be until the final gun or until the middle of the first quarter... we'll see.
The weekend's biggest game is obviously LSU at Alabama. This one has taken on even more significance for me since the Aggies will be in the same SEC division as those teams starting in 2012. My formula calls for me to pull for Alabama, since LSU beat A&M in the last Cotton Bowl. Alabama is favored at home, but CFN predicts LSU will edge them, 20-16. With my luck they probably will, but I hope the Tide rolls.
Added 4:30 pm Saturday: Texas Tech continues to devalue A&M's win over them by getting their asses whipped. Today, it was the longhorns ripping them to shreds. Tuberville may have a short tenure in Lubbock if this keeps up.
In Norman, meanwhile, the signs are good. The Aggies are behind 13-10 at halftime, so regardless of what happens they won't be able to blow a big lead in the second half. The sooners haven't dominated as expected, so I guess I'll stick with the game a while longer.
Added 5:00 pm: Now it's 27-10, and A&M is probably the worst second-half team in major college football. A short punt into a strong wind set up one sooner TD, and another Tannehill interception set up a second TD. Maybe Sherman and Tuberville can get together for coffee this week and compare notes.
Added 9:00 pm: At the half, it's Alabama 3, Louisiana State 3. Let's say both teams know how to play defense and leave it at that. Lots of movement between the 20s but not across the goal lines.
Added 10:42 pm: LSU wins 9-6 in overtime. Alabama missed a FG and LSU made one. Something tells me I'm eventually going to hate LSU as much as I hate the fucking longhorns and red raiders now.
