Johnny Rivers memories

When I began courting the young lady who eventually became Mrs. bee, Johnny Rivers was a popular artist on Top Forty AM radio. Shortly after we started dating, The Poor Side of Town hit the charts. Something about the song reached into me, and I identified with it. I bought the single, and we would play it over and over on the hi-fi in her living room. Later on, we were separated while I was spending most of the summer at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Johnny Rivers had a follow-up hit with the Motown song Baby, I Need Your Lovin' that summer; I was lonesome and miserable, and if I had a dollar for every second I spent on my cot, moping and listening to JR sing that song, I might've been tempted to retire at 22.
