Screen name LaMigra posted the comment above on the liberal reader blog Blue Team at the Houston Chronicle. I have a feeling he speaks for many of our rightwing countrymen. It's funny, because I have similar thoughts about Repubs all the time. I won't go into the details, but my solution to our conservative problem would involve boxcars and huge detention facilities in Idaho.
I got another email from my buddy Mojo in Austin, who still seems frustrated by the effects of "uncontrolled capitalism" and the failure of the Democrats to offer a plausible alternative. He says in part "...if the average person is well fed (a job) at the election moment he or she will be easily influenced to continue the status quo...", and I can't argue with the assessment.
When you average W's share of the popular vote in the 2000 and 2004 elections, it comes to 49.28 percent, so that's the percentage I consider a baseline when discussing stupidity rates in the United States. The national basic stupidity level is 49.28 percent, with the hardcore stupidity subset (stupidity developed to the level of an art form) at 30 percent, corresponding to W's August 2008 average job approval rating.
For Republicans, dumb voting is like buzzards eating roadkill; it's doing what comes naturally to them. This year the problem might be compounded by the prospect the 49.28 percent will be reinforced by an as-yet-undetermined number of Dem crossovers who'd rather vote stupid than vote for the N.
