South Carolina votes are in

Another weekend of the campaign is coming to a close. Yesterday, South Carolina held its first-in-the-South primary, and McCain finished on top with 33 percent of the vote, followed by Hucklebuck at 30 percent, Ferd Thompson at 16, and Mormon Mitt at 15 percent. The Lovely Rudi trailed Ron Paul. As an indicator of exactly how many absolute bottom-feeders there are in South Carolina, Tom Tancredo got 114 votes. Duncan Hunter, a guy most people have never heard of, dropped out of the race and will be missed.

From my perspective, McCain's win had more positives than negatives attached. First, as mentioned previously, McCain is the only Repub in the race that I can imagine living with for four years. Rush Limbaugh, the pimple on the ass of America, hates McCain, as do all the deadenders who consider Rush their spokesman. If that mob of lowlifes is against him, he can't be all bad. For deeper insight into the phonomenon, take a look at the reader comments following George Will's column in today's Chronicle. There are some real rocket scientists in the Houston area, and they're allowed to vote. Scary.

SC has a lot of evangelunicals but not enough of them voted for Hucklebuck to get him the win. Apparently, McCain claimed a nice share of that voter segment. The ole Tennessee hounddog has been issuing threatening hints that he'd drop out of the race if he didn't win in South Carolina. Not enough people took the hint or perceived the threat. We'll see if Ferd was serious, or just trying to blow smoke up our ass. There was a moment when I thought Ferd was a lock to be elected, based on the fact that Americans have a tendency to stop thinking analytically when it comes to showbiz folks.

I'm not sure what the story is with Rudi. Coming in behind Ron Paul ought to tell us something, but as silly as this race has been, it probably doesn't. From what I've read, Rudi is a total control freak. This country has been under the thumb of Total Control Freak little Dick Cheney for two terms, so I'm not delighted at the thought of more. Let's move on.
