Quick, pass me the oxygen

It's been a long time since I took a swim in the cesspool, and I can't explain why I did it tonight. I started channel surfing and decided to see what was on Fox News. I don't know what came over me.

Apparently, there was a Republican debate in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the FNC post-debate coverage was being provided on the Hannity & Colmes show. I was treated to short interviews with Ferd Thompson and Hucklebuck. I'm familiar with Ferd from his acting career and enjoy his performances, but as a RWer running for prez, he's an incredible asshole. I hadn't actually seen Hucklebuck. On camera, he comes across as that rare commodity, a sane CR. I can see why people say he's likeable; looking sane and reasonable may be an act, but he's good at it.

SC is the first big southern-state primary, and both Ferd and Hucklebuck appeal to voters there, but Ferd is desperate for a win and it shows. He was trying to sell the idea that Hucklebuck is a liberal Dem in disguise. If any SC Repub voters buy that, they're dumber than they look. And I know how dumb they look because another segment of the post-debate coverage involved a focus group conducted by the notorious GOP pollster, Frank Luntz. You talk about a bunch of ugly, beady-eyed corncobs with bad haircuts, Luntz had 'em. One of the criteria for selection to the group must have been consistency with negative stereotypes. Think "Deliverance."

Somehow, I have to go to bed and get a peaceful night's sleep after watching thirty minutes of that sheepdip, but I don't know if it can be done. I stopped paying attention to the cable news channels a long time ago; now I remember why.

There are millions of people who soak up this crap every day. It may be disturbing to contemplate, but it's reality and we have to live with it.
