FOOTBALL 2023: Bowl Game

The 2023 Aggie football season officially ends tonight when Texas A&M meets an old Big 12 opponent (Oklahoma State) again in one of the lower tier bowl games (the Texas Bowl in Houston, on ESPN at 8:00 PM).

Due to the termination of Jimbo's employment and the instability among coaching staff and players that resulted, it's hard to understand how A&M (7-5) can be narrowly favored to beat Okie State (9-4) by two or three points. Several of A&M's best players won't be available tonight due to being in potential transfer status. Okie State isn't exactly a powerhouse, but they should be good enough to take advantage of the absenteeism on the Aggie side of the field. It will help a lot if Jaylen Henderson can have a breakout performance in this game. He showed flashes of his skill in the few games he started late in the season, but some of the talented offensive players in those games won't be around in this one.

College Football News prediction: Okie State 34, Texas A&M 26

Update 9:31 PM: With about 30 seconds remaining in the first half, Okie State scores again to take a 24-6 lead, so it's quittin' time. Jaylen Henderson was injured on the first play of the game, and is out for the night. He was replaced by the only other scholarship quarterback available, an inexperienced freshman named Marcel Reed from Tennessee. He seems promising, but probably not tonight.

Final update: Another A&M loss 31-23, about like the prediction
