FOOTBALL 2023: Eleventh Week

One Saturday closer to the end of the disappointing 2023 season, and Texas A&M (5-4) gets one more shot at a winning (7-5) regular season when Mississippi State (4-5) visits Kyle Field tomorrow night (6:30 PM on ESPN2). MSU is having a worse year than the Aggies are, which is why the Bulldogs are 18 1/2 point underdogs. I've watched Max Johnson try to execute the very overrated Bobby Petrino offense, and covering that point spread doesn't look realistic unless the A&M defense can get the shutout.

The night game will be a pleasant change after all those 11:00 AM kickoffs. College Football News is predicting A&M will win it 31-13.

Update 10:13 PM Saturday: When I thought that A&M would probably not cover the spread against MSU, I didn't know that Max Johnson would miss the game due to injured ribs. Instead of Max, the offense was led by a sophomore quarterback named Jaylen Henderson (transfer from Fresno State), and he was able to get things moving. MSU scored a touchdown by returning the opening kickoff 94 yards for a 7-0 lead, and they added a field goal later. The Aggies steamrolled them 51-10, and it was the best Aggie game in all phases that I've seen since the wins over Alabama in 2021 and LSU in 2022.
