FOOTBALL 2020: Ninth Week

A season that's been really ugly so far for Texas A&M probably won't get any prettier tomorrow night (6:30 PM on SEC Network) against Ole Miss (7-1) at Kyle Field. It will be the first home game for the Aggies since the 17-9 win against Miami back in September. The closest A&M has come to a win in the last three weeks was against Alabama in a road game the Tide tried hard to give away with turnovers, missed field goals, and dumb penalties.

Ole Miss has been red hot on offense so far, but is only a 2 1/2 point favorite as the visiting team. The Aggies have lost some good players to injuries, and don't seem to have a quarterback on the roster capable of outscoring any competent SEC West offense. Still, College Football News predicts the Aggies will discover a spark while playing before a home crowd again, and somehow squeak out a narrow 23-20 victory.

Meh. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it. I doubt that Jimbo Fisher and his current coaching staff will be able to win any more conference games while depending on ineffective quarterbacks and inexperienced players at other key positions.

Update 11:30 PM Saturday: I gave up on the game with A&M ahead 14-10 at halftime. Although the performance of the freshman quarterback, Conner Weigman, showed promise for the future, I didn't have confidence the Aggies could hold a 4-point lead for two more quarters. I was right: Ole Miss won 31-28. The disaster continues, with Jimbo's team being the punching bag that good SEC teams use for practice.
