Q NOTES # 869: News, Briefly

Some good news: A militia asshole from Texas was sentenced to 87 months in the hoosegow for his violent participation in the January 6th attack on the Capitol. It's fairly serious time for this crime, although it's about half of what the Justice Dept. wanted.

Some weird news: Rep. Bim Boebert, one of Colorado's few public embarrassments, missed out on prestigious advanced education, but that doesn't excuse the silly crap she spews. Today, she's being ridiculed for asserting that if AR-15s are outlawed, people in the U.S. will be forced to eat dogs. This WTF? statement is possibly based on something she was told about Venezuela. Bottom line: I've never owned any firearm comparable to an assault rifle, and never ate any dog meat either.

Some unsurprising news: Lovely Lindsey Graham is headed to court again, trying to be excused from complying with a subpoena from the Fulton County, Georgia DA, because he's too powerful and important to testify before a grand jury. Anyway, Lindsey says, what seemed like a blatant effort to interfere in the GA election was only homework he did as part of his Senate committee duty.

Some comments that aren't really news: It's no secret that Trumplickans, particularly but not exclusively in red states, are striving to gain full control of educational curricula until they can replace public schools with vouchers for private religious schools. Eventually, this agenda should produce a population in which the majority of voters are ignorant in the areas of American history, science, economics, and other social sciences. The Trumplickan party can't compete in a nation where most voters are well-educated and capable of intelligent thought.
