This was the first year in a long time that I made it through the college football post-season without watching a single bowl game on TV. That's the result of Texas A&M pulling out of their scheduled game against Wake Forest.
Ordinarily, I watch at least two bowl games, plus the national championship game. This year, the NC game was between Alabama and Georgia, and in recent years the crimson tide has owned the bulldogs. Given the way things have gone in 2021, I had doubts about the value of wasting three hours of precious life watching the Sabans beat the snot out of an inferior team.
According to my standard formula for deciding who to pull for in games that don't involve A&M, I should have pulled for Alabama, since the Aggies have beaten the Sabans more recently (October) than they've beaten Georgia (1954). This time, though, I supported Georgia, based on the 2020 election results: Donnie Pudd carried Alabama with 62 % of the popular vote, while Georgia went for Joe Biden in a huge upset win, then elected two Democrats to the U.S. Senate. Also, Pudd is being investigated for election tampering there. Bottom line, I found a rationale for wanting UGA to win (other than just being sick of Nick Saban).
The game was played Monday night, and now I wish I'd seen it on the tube. Georgia won 33-18, so I was on the winning side this time.
