Texas A&M is still ranked in the lower half of the Top Ten, but hasn't exactly been awesome in either of two non-conference games, and the team lost promising starting QB Haynes King in the first quarter at Colorado last week. The Aggies (2-0) host New Mexico (2-0) tomorrow at 11:00 AM on SEC Network, and are favored by 29.5 points.
New Mexico is probably better than Kent State, but not as good as Colorado. The Aggie offensive line hasn't been able to get exciting results in the running game, and Calzada hasn't produced many highlights as a passer or a runner, though he did come through late in the fourth quarter at Colorado. College Football News thinks the A&M defense will make the difference at Kyle Field, with the Aggies winning 45-10.
The two high profile SEC games this weekend:
Alabama (2-0) at Florida (2-0) on CBS at 2:30 PM. Favored by 15, Alabama knocks off the Gators 38-30 on the road. Update: Alabama survives again, 31-29.
Auburn (2-0) at Penn State (2-0) on ABC at 6:30 PM. Favored by 6. Penn State rolls to a 27-20 victory at home. Update: Auburn lost 28-20. Predicted score was accurate.
Update 12:33 PM Saturday: Texas A&M started fast, scoring on first two possessions for a quick 14-0 lead. The defense has been playing solid football while the offense has gotten sluggish since early first quarter. The halftime score is 24-0.
Update 2:11 PM Saturday: All the excitement in this game was in the first quarter. The second half was a 10-0 game, for a final score of 34-0. The defense was consistently solid, but the offense got sloppy. At least they covered the spread. It will take a better performance next week to beat Arkansas, a team that's hot right now.
