Football 2017: Week Two

As things turned out, I watched three quarters of Texas A&M @ UCLA last weekend, and a few minutes of Alabama vs Florida State. Maybe I'll be more interested in college football games on TV tomorrow. Problem is, the four games that should be most interesting are all being played at roughly the same time.
  • TCU @ Arkansas (CBS 2:30 PM): This will be an opportunity to scout one of A&M's division opponents, and get another look at Kenny (Down) Hill, who had one superb game (the 2014 opener against South Carolina) as the starting quarterback for the Aggies, but now plays for TCU. The christians are favored by a FG, and College Football News thinks they'll beat the hogs 27-24. Final score: The christians won fairly decisively 28-7.
  • Nicholls State @ Texas A&M (ESPNU 6:00 PM): This would be a nothing game even if the Aggies had beaten UCLA last Sunday, as it seemed they would until late in the 3rd quarter. As it is, the Aggies just played their shortest season in history (one game) by blowing a 44-10 lead in the 4th quarter, making this game even less significant than it would normally be. CFN predicts the Aggies will stomp Nicholls 65-0, but really, who cares? Final score update: The game was a snoozefest, and I quit on it at halftime, with A&M clinging to a slim 14-6 lead. I decided I'd rather watch a Steve McQueen movie on TCM instead. Despite their uninspired performance, the Aggies struggled to a 24-14 win. If this game is an indicator of where the season's headed, the Aggies will need a ton of lucky breaks to beat any SEC team.
  • Auburn, ranked 13th, at third-ranked Clemson (ESPN 6:00 PM): This is a game with potential, and I may watch it instead of the Kevin Sumlin nothing burger. Or maybe not. Clemson is a 5 1/2 point favorite, and CFN expects they'll cover the spread by beating Auburn 26-20. Final score: Clemson won 14-6.
  • Georgia, ranked 15th, at 24 Notre Dame (NBC 6:30 PM): The Irish are favored by 6 1/2 points, but CFN sees them edging the bulldogs 23-20. Final score: Georgia pulls off a 20-19 upset.
  • Oklahoma, ranked 5th, at 2nd-ranked Ohio State (ABC 6:30 PM): I hate the Sooners because of the games A&M lost to them in their Big 12 days, and I don't like the Buckeyes because they win the games I want them to lose, and lose the games I want them to win. As the home team, Ohio State is favored by 7 1/2 points, but CFN forecasts a narrow 27-24 win over OU. Final score: The Sooners won 31-16. Now they need to stomp the shit out of the longhorns.
