Wind, Water and Wood

Since this time last week, I've had an experience with nature that gave me a few things to consider:
  • America isn't as bad off as Donald Trump says it is. There are a hell of a lot of good people willing to do good things to help other people. Some of them might even be Trump voters, but it would surprise me if they were a majority.
  • Texas rednecks have many problems, and a big one is believing everyone is fucked up like they are. They think behaving like an ignorant asshole is an effective business strategy that wins customers. Maybe it does, but it probably guarantees they'll keep being low-income ignorant assholes.
  • There are people in Texas who can perform extremely demanding jobs in a highly competent manner without speaking much English, if any.
  • Sometimes the quality of your whole life depends on about 200 yards or so. If the path of a tornado shifts 200 yards east or west, or 200 yards north or south, it's the difference between sleeping in a home that's comfortable and clean, with running water, electricity and internet access, or driving around in the rain, looking for a place to dry off. Thinking too much about the randomness of nature is depressing.
