Movin' Up

According to USA Today, Julian Castro, mayor of San Antonio, may be nominated to serve as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. If so, this should be the beginning of Castro's climb up the political food chain.

I saw Julian Castro's address at the Democratic national convention in 2012, and as he closed I had the same thought that crossed my mind after watching Sen. Barack Obama speak at the 2004 convention: "I believe I might be seeing the future of the Democratic Party here."

Based on the direction in which the demographics in Texas are trending, I can see Castro as governor within a decade or so. He has everything Texas Democrats have been looking for except name recognition.
