Last night, we continued the annual tradition of watching the AMPAS awards presentation extravaganza, also known as the Oscars. Ellen DeGeneres did a good job as host, unlike the guy who emceed the show last year and had me cringing the whole time. I enjoyed the idea of sending out for pizzas, an informality we don't usually see in an auditorium full of celebrities in tuxedos and evening gowns.
I only saw two movies of the nine nominated for Best Picture. Captain Phillips and Gravity were both very good, although both were grueling to experience. Usually, the fewer nominees I've seen, the less captivated I am by the Oscar telecast, but several of the other nominated movies look interesting enough to watch on DVD.
Matthew McConaughey at age 44 is a more interesting actor than he was a few years ago. I would've preferred to see Bruce Dern win the Best Actor prize, just because I've been enjoying his work for decades. And I have a crush on Amy Adams, so I wanted her to win the other top acting award. Oh well.
