Vote counting has been completed to the extent necessary for a fairly accurate recalculation of the Basic National Stupidity Rate (the average of the Republican Party's share of the total popular vote in all presidential elections since 2000). The BNSR is currently 48.098, rounded to 48.1 percent. This is down slightly from the previous calculation (48.4) as a result of Willard Romney's meager 47.2 percent share in November, barely above the dismal 46.6 percent recorded by Ace McCain and the Snow Bunny in 2008.
Added 3:18 PM, 24 January: The Basic Texas Stupidity Rate is currently 58.2 percent, about ten points above the national average. That explains why Dan Patrick is a state senator and Rick Perry is governor, among other things.
