College Football News prediction: Aggies 51 Sam Houston State 20
CFN warns the Aggies to approach SHSU with caution, and as a longtime observer of college football in general and Aggie football in particular, I believe that's good advice. The relentless hype following last week's upset of Alabama could have A&M thinking they'll win tomorrow simply by showing up, which would be a mistake. I want the SHSU game to be so one-sided that everybody on the team roster gets a few minutes of playing time. No betting line has been established for this game.
Added 6:58 Saturday: I pulled babysitting duty this afternoon, and spent the time at my daughter's house listening to the SHSU game on the radio while watching Ole Miss at LSU on CBS. The Aggies won 47-28 in their least impressive game of the season. The Aggies were sluggish in the first quarter, most of the third, and all the fourth. They took advantage of turnovers and a few quick strikes to build a lead the visitors couldn't overcome -- although if Sam Houston had played a few more minutes against the Aggie 2nd team defense, they might have. I was thinking "Run, clock, run" for the last half of the fourth quarter. That's just pathetic.
When I finish this bullshit, I'm going to scout Missouri against Syracuse. I have a feeling I won't like what I see.
Added 9:59 PM: I was wrong. Syracuse staged a terrific touchdown drive in the last two minutes to beat Mizzou 31-27. Meanwhile, over in Waco the Baylor Bears will start the fourth quarter leading Number 1 Kansas State 52-24. The Wildcats will probably get stomped by Texas next week, too. Kiss the Heisman and the national championship goodbye, Big 12 losers.
