Bumping

The item in right-wing rag Weekly Standard says that the speaking slot originally planned for Senator Marco Rubio at the GOP convention may go to Mrs. Willard instead, to make sure she gets the broadest possible TV coverage. This probably points out where the GOP believes its greatest vulnerability lies. I'm pretty sure Rubio was originally allocated the prime slot because Republicans wanted to game the Hispanic/Latino vote. I read somewhere that if Obama gets the same percentage of Hispanic votes as he received last time, he'll win the election. Rubio has tea party appeal, and if he can get 50 percent or more of Hispanics in the habit of voting Republican, he'll own the fucking GOP.

With that in mind, sliding Rubio out and sliding Willard's old lady in must be a clear sign that Republicans fear erosion among women voters after all the discussion of legitimate rape this week. The GOP would love to return to the good old days when voting was a privilege enjoyed by adult white male property-owners, and it must piss them off that they need to suck up to Hispanics and women. But as it is, they'll shine a spotlight on Ann for a while to show America that gals are welcome in their big tent (which is actually a Dixie cup pretending to be a big tent).
