This afternoon I went to another of the movies on my Christmas must-see list: Revolutionary Road, with Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Kate and Leo were the perfect romantic pair in Titanic several years ago, and they're both excellent in Revolutionary Road, which studies what life is like after the romance wears off. This is one hell of a serious drama -- some scenes are so close to reality it's a little unsettling to watch them.
I've long believed that life as an adult in America basically involves a constant daily struggle to balance responsibility (what we should do) against happiness (what we want to do), and Revolutionary Road dramatizes that exact struggle. To say I identified with Leonardo's situation and the thoughts he expresses is understatement, and for that reason I award Revolutionary Road a rating of 9.0 and recommend it to anyone who appreciates intense drama and doesn't require action sequences or happy endings in movies.
