It doesn't happen often, but now and then I have a dream that I remember clearly when I wake up, and is so remarkable I think about it for an hour or so. This morning I had one of those dreams. Describing it adequately would require more writing skill than I possess, but I'll still give it a try.
In the dream, I'm in a fairly large group of people that includes the cast of the Seinfeld sitcom: Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine. At one point, those four and a few people I know are gathered at a round conference table, playing CDs on portable jam boxes. My function is to distribute various CDs to each of the Seinfeld characters; for some reason, Elaine is having trouble getting her player to work.
Like most of my favorite dreams, this one involves an ability to accomplish something that's physically impossible. In this case, it's a stunt I've thought up to amaze the Seinfeld characters and involves a conventional broom. I position the broom vertically with the straw end pointed up, and bend over to grasp the handle near the floor. I then raise my legs so that my body is parallel to the broomstick, with my feet pointed at the ceiling.
The stunt is intended to entertain, so I begin to ascend the broomstick, hand over hand, feet first. Somehow the broom remains erect while all this is happening, since I'm apparently weightless as I elevate. When I reach the straw end, I continue the hand-over-hand until I'm actually positioned several feet above the broomstick, suspended upside down in midair. Amazing, huh ? It goes without saying that Elaine, Jerry, George, and Kramer are totally impressed with my performance and laugh and clap.
It would be cool if I could just ignore the effects of gravity anytime I wanted to.
