Tonight I watched the PBS program Frontline, which was showing the recent documentary film Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story.
I won't devote space to rehashing biographical information about Lee Atwater. I will say that this film is an outstanding 86 minute lesson in the history of American politics since 1980, and is being awarded my highest recommendation. Anyone who's remotely interested in how we sank to the depths of W's eight years in office and in understanding why people like me regard Obama's election as a transformative event needs to see this documentary. I'll definitely buy the dvd to watch when I need a refresher in anti-Republicanism.
