Jolene, please...

Something has been gnawing at me this afternoon, and I think I figured out what it is. Bear with me a minute on this.

In the early 1970s (actually 1974), Dolly Parton wrote and performed a country music hit called "Jolene." In the song, she's speaking (first person singular) to Jolene (second person singular), who has auburn hair. She practically begs Jolene to leave her man alone, telling her "please don't take him just because you can." It's one of Dolly's great songs, and if you knew Dolly in 1974, you had to wonder about another woman (Jolene) who could steal her man. Wow.

So today, the song starts playing over and over in my head. I'm mentally humming along with Dolly, and wondering where the impulse came from. And then I stumbled upon the YouTube video at this link ( YouTube - Sarah Palin Winks At America ) and suddenly everything became clear.

Last night as I watched Falin work the camera in St. Louis, I was amazed at the way she was coming across. Let's just say she was the diametrical opposite of Joe Biden and leave any pole-dancing references out of it. The twenty seconds or so of the video captures the essence perfectly.

Here's what's going through my mind. I imagine there are bubbas out there who are still thinking about Falin this morning. She had their votes and still does. But I'm wondering about the other hockey moms, who don't have a million dollars and don't get to be on television. Some of them are probably married to those bubbas who have a wandering eye, and maybe they've even been cheated on once or twice. I'm wondering how many of them watched Falin and watched their men watching her and thought "Jolene."

Maybe the snowbunny lost Ace a few thousand votes last night. And if you read references to Jolene on a jailbee blog, you'll know where it came from.

Wasilla Vanilla... putting the poontang back into politics !
